HENRYK BOLESLAW PILOZOW Peacefully, on Friday, November 5, 2004 Henryk (Henio) Pilozow, beloved husband of Czeslawa, passed away at Seven Oaks Hospital. He will be sadly missed by his devoted and loving wife of 51 years Czeslawa (Charlotte) sons, Jerry (Eleanor) and Ted (Barbara) grandchildren, Stephanie, Warren, Michelle and Lindsay. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Agnieszka Zurek; brother-in-law Kasmir (Marusia) Zurek; nephews, Michael and Andrei; and a large extended family. Henio was born on October 27, 1921 in Wilno, Poland. At the outbreak of the Second World War, he enlisted with the Second Corpus Polish Army and served with great distinction and valour. He was awarded medals of bravery in the battle of Monte Cassino, Italy and the campaigns in North Africa. As well, he was a skilled boxer and was the British 8th Army Middleweight Champion. Following the War, Henio immigrated to his new homeland of Canada in 1947, settling in Winnipeg. Here, in 1951, he met his lifemate Czeslawa (Lorenc) and they began their new lives together and family. Henio worked as a transit bus operator for the City of Winnipeg for 34 years, retiring in October 1986. He was a faithful member of Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, a longtime member of the Polish Combatants Association, and a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Andrew Mynarski VC Branch 34, where he served as Sargeant-at-Arms for over 25 years. He was also Vice-President and Treasurer of this Legion Branch. Henio loved music and passed along his musical talents to his family. With his wife Czeslawa, he sang with the Polish Sokol Choir for many years, performing annually at Folklorama and touring throughout Canada, the U.S. and Poland. His many friends will long remember his beautiful tenor voice, flirtatious charm and great sense of humour. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 9 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church. Pallbearers will be Kasmir Zurek, Warren Pilozow, Michael Zurek, Andrei Zurek, Dan Morrow and Chris Kowalski. Interment to follow at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Cemetery. The family would like to express their gratitude to the nursing staff of Seven Oaks Hospital for their compassion and care of Henio, particularly on the 5th floor, Unit 5 and the 3rd floor, Unit 7, over the past several months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Henios name to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, Cancer Society Manitoba, or to Holy Ghost Church. Wieczny odpoczynek racz dac mu Panie.
